Sample Wedding Day Timeline Template

wedding timeline template 8 day

A wedding itinerary is a wedding planning template that is used to make a list of everything that needs to be done on the wedding day and at what time. It's similar to a wedding countdown schedule but it focuses just on the day of the wedding or the wedding weekend.

What time should your wedding start?

A good start time is 3:30 p.m. Schedule about 30 minutes for a nicely paced wedding ceremony, that's the ideal ceremony length.

What is the order of events in a wedding?
Traditional Wedding Ceremony Order

  • The Processional. First off, the processional.
  • Words of Welcome. Once everyone is in place, the officiant will say a few words of welcome.
  • Introduction.
  • Readings.
  • Officiant Addresses Couple.
  • Exchange Vows.
  • Ring Exchange.
  • The Kiss.
  • How many hours before ceremony should bride be ready?

Figure out when you'll need to be in your wedding dress.

Generally speaking, most brides will need about 30 to 45 minutes from the time they step into their wedding dress until they're ready to walk out the door. via

Who typically gives toasts at a wedding?

Traditionally, the order of wedding reception toasts goes like this: The best man toasts the bride. The maid/matron of honor toasts the groom. The wedding host/financier (traditionally the father of the bride) toasts the couple. via

Is the first dance before or after dinner?

Traditionally, the first dance kicks off the dancing portion of the reception. So, most couples save the first dance until after the meal has been completed. via

When should you cut the cake at a wedding?

Traditionally, the bride and groom serve wedding cake in between dinner and dancing, often following the couple's first dance. This is mainly because cake cutting serves as a silent clue that guests can start heading home, especially if they aren't planning to stay for the after-party. via

Who goes first in wedding vows?

In a traditional wedding ceremony order, the vows are followed by the ring exchange. The groom usually goes first, though we invite you to be progressive. He puts the wedding band on the bride's finger while repeating a phrase like, “I give this ring as a sign of my love.” Then, it's the bride's turn. via

Who Walks mother of bride down aisle?

The most traditional choice is for a groomsman to walk the bride's mother down the aisle. This can be an especially good choice if the two sides of the wedding party are uneven or if you'd like to give this gentleman some additional spotlight. via

Who comes first in a wedding ceremony?

The processional begins with bridesmaids and groomsmen walking down the aisle, typically paired up. The maid of honor and best man walk down after all other bridesmaids and groomsmen have made their way down the aisle. The ring bearer will then carry the rings to the altar, followed by the flower girl. via

Is a 7pm wedding too late?

That will be fine! 7-8 is a very common time for dinner to start. I would do as many photos as you can before so that you can cut the cocktail hour a little short. If you did 45 minutes, you could start dinner at 8:00. via

What is the average wedding day timeline?

In general, the planners recommend between a half hour and an hour for first look and couple portraits, plus a half hour to an hour for wedding party and other formal group (like family) portraits. Burgess also suggests adding 30 extra minutes afterwards "to relax pre-ceremony." via

Why do you get married on the half hour?

    Marrying on the Half-Hour

"Setting the ceremony time at half-past the hour was said to bring blessings upon the couple, because the minute hand is 'ascending towards heaven' and the marriage begins on the upswing," she says. via

Why do grooms cry when they see the bride?

For grooms who had to endure initial rejection from the bride's parents, or those who had to fight hard and do a lot to get their own parents' clearance to marry the girl of their dreams, watching that same woman walk slowly down the aisle towards them could result in a rush of emotions so intense that tears just start via

Is doing a first look worth it?

“It's a great decision for couples who want to spend some quiet time together before the ceremony." It gives you and your partner a few moments together: “A first look definitely does not spoil the ceremony,” says Carrie Patterson. via

How many couples do a first look?

While the traditional version of a first look—aka, seeing each other for the first time during the walk down the aisle—still reigns supreme with 53 percent of couples, the high percentage of reveals before the ceremony (nearly half!) certainly suggests a departure from tradition. via

Does the groom's mother get ready with the bride?

Traditionally, the groom's mother stays with her son on the morning of the wedding, and there's nothing wrong with maintaining the custom. That's why you shouldn't be offended if your future mother-in-law expresses interest in spending the day with her child rather than joining you in the bridal suite. via

What time should hair and makeup start on wedding day?

At least one service (either hair or makeup) should be finishing up upon our arrival. Just be sure that you are keeping an eye on the time and starting your wedding hair and makeup at least 2 hours before you need to be completely done and ready to get into your dress. via

What comes first hair or makeup?

During the hot summer season, your best bet will be to style your hair before doing your makeup. For the same reason, you may want to style your hair first for your wedding, hot tools plus hot weather is likely to lead to perspiration. So, do yourself and your makeup a favor and save your makeup products for last! via

    The Traditional First Look

Removed from arranged marriages, this continued as a tradition of "supposed bad luck". If the bride and groom saw each other before the ceremony, it was a sign of bad "juju". And don't worry, there's plenty of other weird wedding traditions that we still practice regularly!

Figure out when you'll need to be in your wedding dress.

Generally speaking, most brides will need about 30 to 45 minutes from the time they step into their wedding dress until they're ready to walk out the door.
